Gay people are flocking to Canada?...Not that there's anything wrong with that!

TORONTO - U.S. gays, percieving themselves as being surrounded by a hostile straight majority, are heading to the Great White North for hopefull refuge

Toronto mayor David Miller took a sip of ice water and swallowed hard. You could actually see his Adam's apple doing pushups

"L-look, I'm not going to pull punches anymore. First Democrats in general wanted to seek self-imposed asylum because Bush won, and now gays from the U.S. want asylum because they didn't get their marriage bill passed. What do we look like up here? A refuge for political whiners? I would like to think that Americans would seek Canadian citizenship for other reasons. Plus, why do American gays think we are any less family oriented than people in the States are? I mean, I have a few gay aquaintences...not friends really...I've always supported gays in my city...but I'm afraid that we're going to get a reputation up here as being the San Francisco of the North...Not that there's anything wrong with that!"

Most Canadians agree that political dissidents fleeing The States for Canada harken back to the draft dodging Vietnam war days, and are not eager to repeat it.

Toronto resident Susan Campbell adds

"We like to think of ourselves as a family oriented country as well. I'm not sure how things would pan out with a large influx of gays into Canada...I mean, I went to high school with a girl who is gay...Not that there's anything wrong with that!"
