 | Can you tell the difference? I can't. | | Bangor, Maine - A Maine boat anchor that has been sitting outside a small-town bar for years and bears a resemblance to Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin has been has been getting hate mail, nasty phone calls, and even death threats from angry Palin supporters who feel the anchor is a cruel mockery of Palin's signature style.
The anchor, which was retired from everyday use in 1994 and has since been displayed outside the "Goodtime Beer and Spirits" as a decoration, is made of cast-iron, slightly rusty, and is roughly the same size as Palin. Additionally, the anchor often is seen wearing glasses and a long brown wig done up in a similar style to that of Palin's hair.
"The college kids in town like to dress the anchor up," said Goodtime owner Ralph Campbell. "They've been doing it for years, we all have a good laugh about it."
Palin supporters feel the boat anchor is mocking Palin and are fearful the resemblace could sway voters.
"Who wants to vote for the candidate they associate with a boat anchor?" said one such supporter.?sid=1"
